I’m going to be honest. I barely remember April. I remember a lot of reading, a lot of studying, and so much writing that I developed carpal tunnel from using my laptop 10+ hours a day. However, here are some things that I can remember enjoying in the past month.

The Patron St. of Ugly by Marie Manilla
I was assigned to read this for my Southern Literature class, probably one of my favorite classes I’ve ever taken, and I fell in love with this book. It is by a West Virginian author, who actually came to visit our class for a Q&A, and I left feeling like a geeked-out bookworm who just met her hero. Manilla inspired me to write more, to write better, and to write outside the box. If you are into magical realism, family stories, heartbreak, and sarcasm, this book is for you.

Spark Joy by Marie Kondo
I’ve also been loving the newest book from Marie Kondo, Spark Joy. Kyle surprised me with this a few weeks ago after he ran errands at Target, and I have loved reading Kondo’s more in depth concepts of her strategy. If you remember me writing about her first book, you know how that changed my life.

Sally Hansen Hard As Nails
I’ve been using this stuff for years, but this past month made me re-fall in love with it. My nails are typically a mess. They stay brittle and weak, and I have to have something to strengthen them up at all times. Even vitamins do very little to help them. This stuff makes my nails hard and strong, while providing a good base coat when I actually take the time to polish my nails these days.

Stila Smudge Stick Waterproof Eyeliner in Damsel
I actually bought this eyeliner months ago, but lately I have loved it for quick makeup days that often happen during school. It is a twist-up liner situation, and goes on really dark and pigmented. I usually use a little brush to smudge it out, and it literally stays on all day. It is a dark brown shade, and gives plenty of definition without the harshness of a black liner. The waterproof formula will be perfect for summer, too.

West Virginia Native Bracelet
My sister picked this beauty up for me on her recent trip to Lewisburg and the Greenbrier (where she got engaged!), and she has the matching one in silver. I have received so many compliments on it, and it goes perfectly with my current bracelet stack. Any reminder of my home state is good by me.

tarte cosmetics LipSurgence Lip Creme in Wonder
I received this in my most recent ipsy bag, and was pleasantly surprised with how well I liked the color on my skin tone. I love reds and corals, and this one was a nice balance between the two. It add the right amount of color pop to my face when I have minimal makeup on, which seems to be the norm these days.

Trivia Tuesday
So my family and I are now obsessed with trivia. My brother wanted to go for his birthday at the end of March, and we have been going pretty much every week since then. There are different locations around town, but we usually hit up the Tuesday night game at Mancini’s. We are not very good, but it is still really fun. Kyle particularly loves it, and I definitely get too competitive sometimes. #oldestchild

Okay, here is where I talk about how I am like everyone else and obsessed with Beyonce’s “Lemonade.” I have a lot of feelings about this album (I’m actually probably going to do a separate post just for that), and I have basically listened to it on repeat for weeks. During finals, I watched the film in 5 or 10 minute increments when I took a break from studying. Just to be clear, I do not love Beyonce just for the sake of loving her. I love her for a million reasons that I might write about later. But for now, my point is she is definitely an April favorite.

Morning walks with my husband
Kyle and I started going on early morning walks together last month, and while it will probably be a favorite forever now, it was definitely a favorite part of April. We get up around 6:30, throw on some clothes, grab a cup of coffee and are out the door. We walk to the end of the road and back, which is about a mile, and by the time we get outside into the fresh air, we’re a lot more awake and ready for the day. Sometimes we chat, sometimes we don’t, but it’s nice to be together and start our day fresh.

Melissa Stilwell Photography
I had the true privilege to work with Melissa for some photos for my blog, and I have been so overwhelmed with how easily she captured my soul and heart in her work. Everything that I want Mountain Gypsy to be, she realized in these photos. There are still more photos to come, and I can’t wait to share them.
