This winter has been unusually warm lately, so my typical winter wardrobe is quite different this year. So far, I’ve only had to wear my really heavy coats a handful of times, and the rest of the time, a chunky sweater and scarf has been plenty to keep me cozy. Currently, I’m wearing some of my basics over and over, and without realizing it, I’m wearing Madewell pretty much exclusively. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again: their stuff is just the best. Here are a few staple items that I consistently reach for in my closet.
I’m in the market for new jeans, because I’ve just about worn out my favorite pair, but these Ally Straights from Madewell never let me down. They’re a more casual fit with a looser hem at the ankle, but still slim. They can be rolled up a bit with my booties, or still fit down into my taller boots.
Speaking of booties, these black Billie Boots have been on my favorites lists before, and I just keep going back to them. They go with everything and don’t hurt my feet.
An oversized sweater is a must in my wardrobe year round. I scored this baby on the Anthropologie sale rack last year, and I wear it all the time. It’s great for around the house (currently wearing it as I write this) or for throwing on over a top when I’m heading to Sunday brunch. It’s super soft, too, which is another must for me. Its light gray color easily coordinates with whatever I’m wearing.
My new favorite t-shirt is this slub crewneck tee I bought on my recent trip to Louisville, and I’m kicking myself for not purchasing one in every color. The sleeve is just a tad longer than a normal t-shirt, and the fit is just baggy enough. It’s drapey in all the right ways.
Another absolute must for me in the fall and winter is a good flannel. This Ex-Boyfriend Flannel was also a purchase from my Louisville trip (my girlfriend and I actually purchased the same one. #twinning), and it is just as wonderful as my other Madewell flannel in red and black. Their flannels fit so perfectly. They are a little baggy, like a men’s shirt, but still fitted through the sleeves, so they give you a nice balance of masculine and feminine. Also, I live in the mountains, so once it does start to get cold, I’m going to need this baby for layering, or else I’ll freeze right to the bone. It’s just nice to look cute while keeping warm.
All of these pieces are pretty casual, but I like to wear a few sparkly pieces of jewelry to dress it up a bit.
These big stud earrings from kate spade were a birthday gift from my MIL, but I’ve been wearing them almost non-stop this month. I love stud earrings, because they don’t get caught in my hair as easily, but still give me a little sparkle.
The little arrow bracelet was a gift from my sister years ago, but I’ve recently started wearing it again. I love arrows, and this one always reminds me of her and our adventures together, so I love wearing it with my other gold pieces.
My most recent favorite moonstone necklace from DrunkenMermaid has literally been the only necklace I’ve worn all month. I love how it looks with the darker colors of winter, and I get so many compliments on it.
