With her big eyes, big bangs and big personality, Zooey Deschanel definitely deserves to be our Gypsy of the Week.

It’s easy to love Zooey. She’s adorable and smart and has a raspy voice, which is the best kind of voice in my opinion. Her character on New Girl is what I imagine to be an overly dramatized version of her real self, and as the “she” in She & Him, her crooning tunes draw you in even more. Her style is definitely inspired by the 1960s, which is wonderful, and she is proud of who she is.
As women, we need to own our emotions and never let people tell us to stop being so dramatic/crazy/hypersensitive. Just because we want to feel things, really feel them, doesn’t mean we aren’t smart and strong and badasses.
“I’m just being myself. There is not an ounce of me that believes any of that crap that they say. We can’t be feminine and be feminists and be successful? I want to be a f–king feminist and wear a f–king Peter Pan collar. So f–king what?”

Why are we made to believe we can’t be successful and still be feminine? Zooey shows us that we can be whoever and whatever we want to be in spite of stereotypes and stigmas against us. And that should be celebrated.
Who else should be our Gypsy of the Week? Let me know if you have any ideas!
