I love New Year’s Eve. I never really know where I’m going to be when I ring in the new year, but usually I’m with my family and I get to wear something sparkly. Win win.
This year, I wanted to go for a very gypsy-inspired NYE look — a little bit glitzy but not too much. And, like a lot of times, I’m basically wearing all black.
I recently ordered a little black dress from Madewell, that I needed for my wardrobe anyway, and decided to jazz it up a little for New Year’s. These days, I’m of the belief that simple is often better, and this dress fits the bill. It’s just a simple sleeveless tank dress with a nipped in waist and a little bit of a V in the back. Simple. Versatile.
I’m going to pair it with a pair of sparkly tights, and my go-to black booties. I also received a new coat for Christmas from my husband, which I will probably wear over my dress for traveling, even though it’s been unseasonably warm this month. I love the leather details and the length is perfect for wearing with dresses.
As for jewelry, I’m planning to mix and match a few pieces. My brother gifted me this long necklace from Birds of a Feather, and I’ll be mixing it with a pair of crawler earrings from BaubleBar. I also have my go-to cocktail ring, which I received years ago from my mother-in-law, and I think she purchased it at Village Collection. I also have a few bracelets stacked up. The little arrow one was a gift from my sister a few years ago and is from a local vintage store, the big gold one is from mother-in-law and came from JCrew and the little red and gold one is from 31bits, my most recent favorite place to shop for jewelry.

For my makeup, I definitely wanted lots of sparkle.
I used my Beauty Blender for my foundation, which I love for blending it out and giving my skin a smooth glow. I used also used a lot of highlighter. #strobing. The Makeup Forever powder sets everything nicely and blurs pores for nice photos. Perfect for party selfies.
I used three different gold shades of eyeshadow, and when you’re using this much shimmer, a primer is key. The Urban Decay Primer Potion is my go-to, but there are plenty of other good options. For the shadows, I chose the color Half Baked for all over the lids, Prancer in the crease, and then Chopper for the outer corner. I used Foxy for the brow bone, which is the only matte shade I used. This Kat Von D eyeliner is my absolute favorite and gives nice dark, inky lines. My brows are the usual combination, and mascara is another go-to from the drugstore.
For the lips and cheeks, I used dark berry colors. My lips are actually a combination of these two lipsticks from MAC. I like mixing shades to get the exact color I’m looking for, and concentrating the lighter color in the middle of the lips gives it a little bit of an ombre effect. Alternatively, you could even put a darker color on top, a lighter color on the bottom, and then blend the middle for a really obvious ombre lip.
As for my hair, I just curled it using my usual curling wand, plus some root texture powder and hairspray. My hair usually just does its own thing, and I’ve learned to embrace that. Basically anything I do to it is just a slight suggestion, and it just goes from there.
I’m excited to actually wear this out for New Year’s, and not just in my yard for neighbors to see.
What are your plans for New Year’s Eve?
